Orientation Classes
The church is like a home and every home has its own ways and
routines. In this class (of 3 evenings) we give a brief outline
of how our church functions and what we do. A tour of the building
is given and an outline of our history is also presented. The aim
is to make new members and regular visitors feel more part
of the “family” by familiarising them with our routines and ways
of doing things. These classes are held as required.
Enquirer Classes
Christianity
Explained is offered. This is a six week course which is
intended for people who have very little or no background
knowledge of the Christian faith. This class is conducted as
required throughout the year.
New Members Class
This class
is designed to help people decide whether they wish to become
communicant members of our church. Over a period of approximately
10 evenings the basic aspects of the Christian faith are presented
in a relaxed atmosphere.
Persons who
have completed this class and who share those basic beliefs with
us are invited to apply for church membership. These classes are
held as required.
Café Craft
This group
enables ladies within the community to get out and meet in a
relaxed and friendly atmosphere where they can have a chat, and
mix with other people, and for those who wish, to do a craft. The
meetings are held fortnightly on Fridays in the church hall from
9.15 -11.30a.m. A crèche is available.
Children’s and Youth Ministry
The faith
nurture of our young people is under the oversight of the Youth
Ministry Team. The focus of our youth activities is to help our
young people grow to greater maturity in Christ.
Child Safety:
Church council is committed to making the church a safe place
for children. Part of that commitment requires that all persons
serving in leadership roles must be familiar with the contents
of the Child Protection & Safety Policy Procedures Manual
and complete the Application to serve in Children’s
/Youth Ministry. Only on approval of the pastor, can a
person commence serving in a leadership role. The manuals are
available from the church office, and forms are available from
the pigeon holes.
Sunday
School
The Sunday School caters for
children aged 4 to 7 each Sunday from 9.30 am. to 10.45 am. The
purpose of the Sunday School is in the first instance to cater for
the young children within the church, but also to make provision
for community children.
GEMS (Girls Everywhere Meeting the Saviour)
Gems is a program run for
girls in years 3-7. The girls and their leaders meet fortnightly
on Friday evenings at the church for games, Bible study, badge
work and outings.
Cadets
Cadets is a program for boys
in years 5-7. The boys are in small groups with a leader and a
helper. They spend their time playing games, in Bible Study, Merit
badge work and Crafts. During the year the boys have several
(exciting) camp-outs. Currently they meet in the church every
second Friday night at the church on alternate weeks to GEMS.
School Holidays:
During the October School
Holidays we run a very popular "Holiday Club" programme. This is
open to children from a wide range of age groups. For more info as
to what, when & where, please don’t hesitate to call.
Mid Week @ Willo and The Edge
M W @ W seeks to nurture our
young people in years 8-10 in the Christian faith. While as a
church we seek to empower parents in their task of the faith
development of their children, we also want to help parents in
their task by providing this time for their children to meet
together.
M W @ W
takes place every second Wednesday evening at the church from 7.15
pm. Some time is spent altogether in a large group before
splitting off into small groups. In small groups we seek to
develop lasting relationships and encourage one another in our
Christian walk. At this time a study of the Bible, following the
outline of the Heidelberg Catechism, takes place.
On alternate
weeks, those in year 8-10 are invited to join our Junior Youth
Program – The Edge - on Friday night at the church. This program
is an extension of M W @ W which seeks to build on what is learned
through outings, camps, games and further Bible Study.
YABS
(Young Adults Bible Studies)
These groups provide an
opportunity for young people to meet together and study aspects of
the Christian life that are particularly relevant to them. YABS
also seeks to build friendships among the young people, and in so
doing, provide support for each other. All of our young people
(year 11+) are encouraged to be in one of these groups.
For those in
year 11-12, this takes place on Wednesdays, (fortnightly) from
7.30-9.30 p.m. Over two years this provides an overview of the
whole Bible, also focusing in on some of the specifics of the
Reformed faith and what it means to be a part of this church. The
other groups meet on Tuesday evenings every second week).
TNT
(Tuesday Night Thing) and Social Nights: year 11+
For those in year 11 and
beyond. TNT meets on weeks alternate to YABS groups. It takes
place at the church, contains worship, socializing, studying God’s
word and small groups. It is fun, informative and relaxed. For
more details contact Nigel Swarts—9258 5442
Social Nights are organized about
every 3 weeks, either on Friday or Saturday Night.
Small Groups
While our Sunday
worship services are very important to us, we believe that being a
part of a small group is really important if we want to keep
growing in our faith. We are therefore very keen for everyone to
actively participate in a small group. Tuesday evenings are kept
free of all other activities so as to make a time when small
groups can meet. However, no group is obligated to meet at that
time. A number of ladies Bible Study groups meet during the day.
No one is
“assigned” to a group. Everyone is free to join which ever group
they wish. Or you can form a small group yourself for a
particular purpose (e.g. to study the Bible Book of
Colossians).
We have a
range of different groups: A few “traditional” Fellowship
Groups, Ladies Bible Study Groups, special interest groups such
as Growing Kids God’s Way, Young Married Couples, Cell Groups,
Young Adults Bible Study, and an Evangelism Explosion training
group, etc. We also have an Afrikaans language small group.
Groups are
encouraged to run for “terms”. The idea is that a person commits
themselves to a particular group for the term. At the end of the
term, there will be a several weeks break, when groups will again
be available to be joined, and people then commit themselves for
that term, to which ever group they have chosen to join. For the
details of groups currently available, please contact the church
office.
Special Needs and Interest Groups…
We run several groups which are for people with special needs or
interests:
Friendship
Friendship is a Christian Outreach Program designed for people
with an intellectual disability – “Our Friends”. Friendship is
about making friends with people who are intellectually disabled
and introducing them to the best friend they could ever have,
Jesus Christ. This program is offered to those 18 years (or over)
and is held every second Wednesday evening (during school terms)
from 7.30 – 9.30 pm at the church. Our friends are able to
participate in a wide variety of activities which includes
singing, drama, story telling, crafts, games, dancing, supper and
much more.
Reeformed Surfers
Reeformed Surfers is a club open to all people with Christian
values interested in “All” types of surfing, aged from 16-60+.
Fun in the Sun with God by our Side is our motto. We meet on the
last Saturday of every month at the church and go for a surf, and
the first Monday of every month a Club Meeting is held at either
this Church or the Gosnells Church, 55 Mills Rd Gosnells.
Network Course
To help make
people aware of their gifts and help/encourage them find
appropriate areas of service, we run the Network Course several
times each year, followed by personal interview with the Network
consultant.
